What You Should Know About a Dental Emergency

Posted .

If you’ve ever been in an emergency situation, you probably understand how stressful these situations can be. Sadly, dental emergencies are no exception—but if you understand how to deal with an emergency situation, the experience should go more smoothly.

There are a number of emergencies you could face. For example, did you know that losing a tooth constitutes an emergency? If this happens, we recommend putting your tooth in a glass of milk—but please don’t handle the tooth by its root. If your chip fractures, please try to gather as many pieces as you can find. Again, please remember to place the tooth in a cup of milk. If you can visit our team as soon as possible, our team may be able to save your tooth.

Losing a filling is another emergency you may have to deal with. For instance, if you lose a filling or a crown, you should contact us as soon as possible. Similarly, if you injure your jaw, please contact us as soon as you can.

Finally, please know that you may need to visit our team if you have a toothache. If your toothache is extremely painful or lasts for more than a few days, please give us a call. In the meantime, you could try rinsing your mouth out with saltwater. Over-the-counter pain medications might also offer temporary relief.
